At the first day of the Mobile World Congress, Sprint Corporations(an American telecommunications company that provides wireless services and is an internet service provider.) announced that they are ready to launch its 5G services in may this year. Before this Verison has also announced that it will launch its 5G services in 30 cities this year.
Talking about the speed, The Sprint chief technology officer John Saw said: “We don’t really want to focus too much on speeds, but the experience.”. Sprint will use the 2.5GHz spectrum to build its 5G network. This spectrum is also used by Sprint’s LTE service but the network is incorporating massive MIMO equipment to create what it calls a 4G/5G split. The advantage of this strategy is that it will allow a faster rollout and it will be cheaper too.
Sprint also said that "Today Sprint and Google announced that they will expand their Mobile Virtual Network Operator (MVNO) partnership to include 5G. As part of Google and Sprint’s continued collaboration, both parties have committed to delivering innovative technology to Google Fi customers, enabled by 5G services from Sprint.". Meaning of this is that Google will also support 5G in the future through sprint. But it's still unclear exactly when Google will offer 5G capable phones that will work with its network.
Sprint will launch its 5G services in the cities like Atlanta, Chicago, Dallas, and Kansas City. 5G service is also supposed to come to Houston, Los Angeles, New York, Phoenix, and Washington, DC in the first half of the year.
